PXG Driver Fitting: New 0211 v 0811 Prototype

What's up guys? I'm Blair Wheeler here at PXG headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona. I'm going to be testing out a couple new drivers today, the PXG 0811 Prototype Driver and the PXG 2021 0211 Driver and see which one fits my game the best.

Differences Between New 0211 v 0811 Prototype

PXG Fitting Specialist:

This is going to be the 0811 Prototype here on the left. We've got our new 0211 Driver on the right. There's certainly differences between the two. We've got four interchangeable weights on the Prototype versus a single weight port in the 0211. Really the biggest difference is the versatility between the two. A player looking for more versatility and personalized performance is really going to want our Prototype driver.

With our 0211, we have a simplified head design with that one weight in the corner.

Right? It's positioned in the back part of the driver and that's geared to bring up the MOI, the forgiveness of the club. What that does for the player who needs the forgiveness, makes that sweet spot the size of Texas.

How will the PXG Driver Fitting Work?

We'll have you test both our 0211 and Prototype. We'll see the numbers that we generate from both options. From there, we're going to get you in the right stuff. All right?

Let's do it.

Test Driving the 0811 X Prototype

PXG Fitting Specialist:

We'll start with our Prototype.

What we're going to do is start with a very standard setup. From there, we can make adjustments based off of what we're seeing, all flight, spin rate, launch angle.

Good swing. We've got ball speed here on the left, and what that's telling us is that your ball speed ranges from 141 to 145mph and you’re very consistent within that range. That's telling me you hit it very solid in the middle at least five times in a row. That's awesome. What I want to really point out is launch angle and spin. Those two areas really affect a driver's performance.

Blair Wheeler:

Right.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

What I'm going to show you on the driver here, the couple of tweaks we're going to make. As you look at this driver, you’ll see we have different settings on the hosel.

With your swing and this current set up, we’re looking at a launch angle right around 16 to 17 degrees. We would love to get that closer to 15 degrees.

Blair Wheeler:

Gotcha.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

If we can get it closer to 15, we're going to lower your launch, but also lower the spin slightly as well. Okay? So, I'm going to make a tweak to the hosel. I'm going to lower loft.

Blair Wheeler:

Okay.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

But then we're also going to change the weight pattern in the bottom of the driver.

Blair Wheeler:

Okay.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

We've got a 15-gram weight in the front setting right now. What we're going to do is move that to the heel and that's going to give you just a slight draw biased to offset your fade.

Blair Wheeler:

Okay.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

The hosel setting that I'm going to move you to is the small minus which is labelled on the hosel itself. That's going to lower the driver by around 0.75 degrees. So instead of the nine-degree option that we have for you, it's going to be closer to eight and a quarter.

Blair Wheeler:

Okay.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

All right? We're going to lock that in and then we're also going to change the weights on here.

Again, very easy. It's the same tool that moves both the hosel and the weight pattern. What we're going to do is move the heavy weight to the heel. That's going to allow you to release the driver with a little bit more ease and square up at impact. It eliminates some of that movement that we're seeing, left to right.

Good move there.

Introducing the all-new 0211 Driver

PXG Fitting Specialist:

What I want to introduce to you next is our 0211 Driver. We're going to match the same exact specs as we did with this second iteration, small minus, and with a nine-degree head, that's going to bring it down to eight-and-a-quarter-degrees of loft. Okay? Let me get that head switched onto the shaft, and we can take a look at the differences after we make a few swings.

Blair Wheeler:

Overall, the average person looking at these two drivers, the Proto versus the 0211, this 0211 would be more for the higher handicap player, maybe?

PXG Fitting Specialist:

For players who are looking for simplified technology and adjustability at a more approachable price point.

Blair Wheeler:

Okay.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

We have that weight in the back for... Like I said, which brings up the MOI. MOI is just a term for forgiveness.

Blair Wheeler:

Yep.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

How easy is the club to hit? It's going to have the same 460cc head, so the volume is exactly the same as the Prototype Driver, and the crown has that carbon fiber finish on top.

Blair Wheeler:

Yeah. It looks great. Looking down on it. It looks the same. Right?

PXG Fitting Specialist:

Exactly right.

Blair Wheeler:

And then from the bottom it still looks good.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

With our lineup, we love to have the clubs sync together.

Blair Wheeler:

Yeah. It's got to look sexy.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

You got to have sexy clubs.

The Data behind a PXG Driver Fitting

Blair Wheeler:

Wow. 275 yards. Oh, I got my new driver.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

I think we found a winner. All we did was change the head, right?

Blair Wheeler:

Yeah.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

Taking a look at our pattern, right? We had four in a row, right on the club face. When I talk about the club face with 0211, it's got a huge sweet spot. You know, the sweet spot right here, it's going to really give you just a little bit more confidence. When you take the confidence, it's only going to skyrocket your ability to play.

Blair Wheeler:

Definitely.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

Right? You know, so where we started at a standard setting, we lowered the loft initially. That got us a little bit lower launch with a little bit lower spin, and we saw an 11-yard gain, right? When we put the 0211 head on there with the same configuration, we saw a drop in the backspin.

Blair Wheeler:

Yeah.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

That's all to do with the size of the sweet spot.

Blair Wheeler:

Wow.

PXG Fitting Specialist:

Right? Bigger sweet spot, you're not going to catch it in the heel as much. That being our miss. We're going to catch it right in the middle, and we're going to add another 13-yard gain.
