A Guide to PXG’s Zero Torque Putter Design & Engineering

Putting is about precision. Even the smallest amount of face rotation can send a putt offline. That’s why PXG approached putting from a different starting point, not by correcting the golfer’s stroke, but by eliminating unnecessary movement in the putter itself.

PXG Zero Torque Putters are engineered to reduce face twist during the stroke, helping golfers deliver the face square at impact more consistently. The result is improved start lines, more predictable roll, and greater confidence when it matters most.

What Is Zero Torque?

Torque is the rotational force that causes a putter face to open or close during the stroke. In most traditional putters, the shaft is positioned away from the putter’s center of mass. As the head moves, gravity and inertia naturally try to rotate the face.

A Zero Torque putter is engineered to minimize torque by aligning the shaft axis relative to CG. When properly balanced, the face resists twisting throughout the stroke and remains stable through impact.

In simple terms:

  • Less face rotation
  • Less manipulation needed by the player’s hands
  • More consistent start lines

Zero Torque does not force a straight stroke. It simply reduces a variable that many golfers fight without realizing it.

PXG's approach to Zero Torque Technology

Zero Torque at PXG is not a marketing label. It is a system-level engineering approach.

Every PXG Zero Torque putter is designed with the same objective: keep the face stable while allowing the golfer to make a natural stroke.

That philosophy is built through four key design pillars.

True Zero Torque Balance

PXG engineers align the shaft axis with the putter’s center of mass to neutralize rotational forces. This structural alignment is what allows the face to resist twisting rather than relying on counterbalancing or excessive weighting.

Precision-Milled Construction

Tight manufacturing tolerances ensure the balance point, face angle, and weighting perform exactly as designed. Stability only works if the geometry is exact.

Adjustable Weighting

PXG Zero Torque putters feature adjustable sole weights so golfers can fine-tune head weight and tempo without compromising balance or stability.

Face Technology Tuned for Roll and Feel

PXG face patterns are engineered to deliver consistent energy transfer, predictable launch, and a solid, controlled sound at impact. Stability matters most when paired with reliable roll.

Zero Torque Hosel Design Matters: Onset vs S Hosel

PXG ZT putters are engineered so the shaft axis is positioned as close as possible to the clubhead’s center of gravity to minimize twisting torque. The exact relationship varies by hosel design. While all PXG Zero Torque putters reduce face rotation, they do not all look or set up the same. Hosel design plays a major role in how Zero Torque is delivered visually and mechanically.

PXG uses two distinct hosel designs across the Zero Torque lineup.

Onset Hosel (currently available in our Hot Rod ZT)

The onset hosel positions the shaft directly over the putter’s center of mass.

This creates true center-shafted Zero Torque balance, where the shaft, head, and balance point are perfectly aligned. The face naturally wants to stay square throughout the stroke with minimal input from the hands.

Key traits of the onset hosel:

  • Shaft intersects the center of mass
  • Maximum resistance to face twist
  • Clean, minimalist look at address
  • Pure Zero Torque delivery

Hot Rod ZT is the currently the only center-shafted Zero Torque putter in the PXG lineup.

S Hosel (All Other PXG ZT Models)

PXG’s S hosel allows Zero Torque performance while offering a more traditional visual presentation at address.

The S hosel:

  • PXG's S-hosel places the shaft axis just above the center of gravity.
  • This creates a defined toe-up balance point and helps resist twisting forces.
  • Creates a familiar setup for golfers transitioning from traditional putters
  • Supports both mallet and blade shapes without a center-shafted look

This approach allows PXG to deliver face stability across a wider range of shapes, alignment styles, and player preferences.

Who Benefits Most From Zero Torque Putters?

Zero Torque putters benefit golfers across all skill levels, particularly those who:

  • Miss putts left or right due to face rotation
  • Feel the putter twisting through impact
  • Struggle with short-putt confidence
  • Want consistency without changing their stroke

Zero Torque simplifies delivery. The face stays stable. The stroke feels natural. Confidence builds.

Why a PXG Fitting Unlocks Zero Torque Performance

Zero Torque works best when the putter is built to your setup.

A PXG custom fitting helps dial in:

  • Length
  • Lie angle
  • Head weight
  • Grip

When those variables are optimized, Zero Torque performance becomes effortless. The putter works with you, not against you.

Zero Torque, the PXG Way

PXG Zero Torque Putters do not correct your stroke. They remove unnecessary motion so you can repeat it.

Less manipulation.
More consistency.
Better roll.

That is Zero Torque, engineered by PXG.
