PXG National Staff Member Tina Tombs delivers a quick and easy drill with her PXG Battle Ready Putter to help you find more accuracy and distance control on the greens. All you need are two rubber bands.
Hi, I’m Tina Tombs, with Tina Tombs Golf at the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona. There are two clubs in our golf bag that we want to hit right on the center of the face; one is the driver, and the second is the putter.
I wanted to give you a tip that’s going to help you get some instant feedback with your putter, and whether or not you’re stroking the ball in the center of your putter face. Now, the reason why we want to make center-of-face contact is because we want to get the right direction and the right speed. When you miss the center of the putter face, you won’t achieve consistent pace or accuracy.
What you’re going to do is you’re going to grab two rubber bands, put them on your putter, and you’re going to practice. You can do this anywhere you want. You can do it indoors, outdoors, anytime of season, whether it’s winter, spring, fall, rain, sunshine, so it’s easy to do. Just place rubber bands ball-width apart on your putter head and start rolling some balls. It’s easy to feel whether or not you hit the center of your putter.
If you don’t hit that rubber band, you know you’re hitting the center of your putter, and you’re going to make more putts and lower your scores.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I MISS THE CENTER OF THE PUTTER FACE?
When you miss the center of the face, the outcome can mean a loss of distance control and accuracy. If you’re missing putts either side of the hole, coming up short, or blasting your putts way past the hole, there’s a good chance you’re not striking the ball consistently in the center of the club face. The good news? Our PXG Battle Ready Putters are fully optimized to suit your stroke type to help you gain more consistency on the green.
