June is National Women’s Golf Month. To celebrate we are featuring a few of the incredible women who are a part of the PXG Troops.
Who better to represent Women’s Golf Month than the first female president of the PGA of America? Meet Suzy Whaley. Suzy personifies what it means to be a successful woman in the golf industry and incredible ambassador for the sport. When she qualified for the 2003 Greater Hartford Open, she was the first woman in 58 years to qualify for a PGA Tour event. She was also the first woman to win a PGA individual professional tournament. As a PXG National Staff Member, Suzy is a great role-model for girls and women all over the world who are looking to get into playing golf.
PXG asked Suzy the following questions to learn more about how she got into golf, the best career advice she has received, and more. Here are her responses:
HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INTO GOLF?
My mom started me in golf. She loved the game and was looking for a pal to play with. I fell in love with the sport right away. I loved the one-on-one time with my mom, so it was an easy decision.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY ON THE GOLF COURSE?
Playing the first time with my children as they carried their own golf clubs and we walked down the first fairway. It was an amazing moment because my husband and I knew they would always have each other and the game to enjoy together.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE OTHER WOMEN INTERESTED IN THE GOLF INDUSTRY?
Love the game, find your passion within the industry, seek out great mentors and sponsors that support your journey, over prepare, and strive for excellence no matter the role you are in.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?
The people are hands-down the best part of my job.
WHAT IS THE BEST CAREER ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED AND HOW HAVE YOU APPLIED IT TO YOUR CURRENT POSITION?
To be kind and open to new opportunities even if they are outside of your comfort zone. Both have always opened doors for me.
WHAT WAS YOUR DREAM JOB AS A KID AND WHY?
Olympian ski racer. I wanted to win the Olympics.

I went away to a ski racing academy in high school.
