GEN8 Irons - What's Your Number?
Inside the Adjustable Dual Weighting of PXG GEN8 Irons
GEN8 Irons are built around a simple question with a not-so-simple answer...
What’s your number?
Because when it comes to iron performance, there isn’t just one “standard.” There’s your build. Your swing. Your miss. Your flight window. And that’s where PXG’s Adjustable Dual Weighting system in our GEN8 Irons changes everything.
PXG’s Adjustable Dual Weighting System Explained
Every GEN8 iron features two external weight ports:
- Heel (H)
- Toe (T)
Each port can be configured with different gram weights. That means your iron head isn’t just “fit” by shaft and lie angle. It’s fine-tuned by mass placement across the head.

You’ll often see weight configurations expressed like:
- H5g / T5g – Balanced
- H7g / T3g – Heel-biased
- H3g / T7g – Toe-biased
That’s your number. And it’s personal!
How Heel and Toe Weighting Impacts Ball Flight
1. Heel-Heavy (Higher H Number)
Adding more mass to the heel can:
- Encourage face closure
- Reduce a right miss (for right-handed players)
- Promote a softer draw bias
- Improve center-face strike for certain impact patterns
2. Toe-Heavy (Higher T Number)
Adding more mass to the toe can:
- Slow face closure
- Help control a left miss
- Promote a fade bias
3. Balanced (Same Heel and Toe Weight)
Balanced weighting means the heel and toe carry the same gram weight.
Balanced weighting:
- Neutralizes CG location
- Delivers stable, consistent flight
- Supports players with centered impact and controlled face delivery
But here’s what most golfers misunderstand.
Balanced does not mean one fixed setup.
Balanced could be:
- H1g / T1g – lighter overall head feel
- H5g / T5g – mid-weight neutral
- H12g / T12g – heavier head, same balance
The distribution stays neutral.
The total mass still changes.
So even when heel and toe match, your number still matters.
And this is the bigger point: Precision is personal.

What We’re Seeing in Real GEN8 Fitting Data
As more golfers go through tour-caliber fittings, the numbers are telling a story.
We sampled nearly 20,000 GEN8 Iron builds:
- 62.7% of irons are built with a balanced heel/toe weight (H = T)
- 37.3% are built with different heel and toe weights
That means more than 1 in 3 players are walking out with a number that delivers a heel or toe-heavy bias.
And in some models, it’s even more pronounced.
- 0311 XP: 40.9% built non-balanced
- 0311 P: 33.7% built non-balanced
- 0311 T: 31.0% built non-balanced
The more forgiving, game-improvement heads are actually seeing the most weight customization. That’s real players, in real fittings, dialing in real bias corrections.
Your Number Can Move More Than You Think
Most golfers assume adjustments are subtle.
But in GEN8 builds, we’re seeing weight gaps of up to 10 grams between heel and toe.
Examples like:
- H12g / T2g
- H2g / T12g
These aren’t cosmetic tweaks. They materially shift mass distribution and influence face behavior through impact.
Even moderate splits like:
- H7g / T3g
- H6g / T4g
- H5g / T8g
…are showing up regularly in fitted builds.
That’s not theory. That’s fitting data.

How Head Model and Weighting Work Together
Each GEN8 head responds differently to weight shifts.
0311 T
Tour profile. Compact. Precision-focused.
The smallest of the three blade lengths mean smaller incremental CG shifts per gram adjusted. Weight shifts fine-tune control for elite ball strikers who demand the same flight and shape, shot after shot.
0311 P
Players distance.
Balancing speed, distance, and playability. The dual weighting system provides forgiveness and shot shape correction without sacrificing control. The P is designed to go long, high, and straight.
0311 XP
Maximum forgiveness.
The ultimate combination of distance and forgiveness. It’s no coincidence this model shows the highest percentage of non-balanced builds. The mass shift is the greatest of the 3 models, which has the biggest effect on shot shape. Players are using weight bias to tighten dispersion and control curvature without sacrificing stability, speed, or contact.
0311 X Driving Iron
Lower loft. More speed.
Weighting becomes critical in managing start line and shot shape. Repeatable curve eliminates the two way miss for better shots from the tee or into greens.
The head model sets the foundation. The weight configuration personalizes it.
Why This Matters More Than Ever
Shaft flex is broad.
Lie angle is structural.
Loft adjusts trajectory.
But dual weighting lets us influence dynamic head behavior during impact.
That’s a different level of fitting.
It’s not about buying an iron. It’s about fine-tuning an iron for your unique swing.
So… What’s Your Number?
You might be a 5/5.
You might be a 7/3.
You might not know yet.
But 4 out of 10 golfers are walking away from fittings with a number that isn’t balanced (H = T).
And the only way to find yours is to measure it through a custom fitting!
